Black Swamp Medicine Girls

Come join us and step back in time with the “Black Swamp Medicine Girls” on February 23, 2016 at the Local History Department, Harmon Room, 6:00 - 7:30 pm.  This is a show like you have never seen before. Explore the history of vintage medicine bottles and treatments for such ailments as consumption, quincy, lumbago, rheumatism, bad breath, and gout. Learn about the old medicine show sales pitches and how one-half dollar could buy you a treatment that could cure everything from baldness to curvature of the spine. Medicine shows were popular between the 1850’s through the 1930’s and traveling groups put on performances peddling their miracle cures, elixirs, and devices guaranteed to improve your health.

Paper Craft with LoveBug Creations

Pam Lash, local paper crafter with LoveBug Creations and lover of paper dolls, will be sharing some techniques and tips in the Harmon Room at the West Annex of the Bryan Main Library on Tuesday, January 19 from 6:00 to 7:45 pm. Register today!
 
These events are geared for adults who can remember paper dolls as a magical past time. If you would enjoy making a few paper dolls, using Julie Nutting doll stamps, this is the program for you. Presenter, Pam Lash will also discuss a new paper craft technique called Gelliplate Printing. You will need to bring along some colored pencils and or fine point markers and a pair of scissors. We’ll stamp, cut, color, and enjoy “all things paper doll” together.
 
The January 19 session will take the paper doll experience to the next level.  Learn to design 3-D projects by paper piecing paper doll elements. This style will make your creations POP!
